We Make the Road by Walking

It’s not too late to join in. We only read one or two chapters per week and each chapter is only 4-5 pages long.  You can read the book on your own or join one of the weekly study groups (Monday, 3 p.m., Tuesday, 10 a.m., Wednesday, 7 p.m.), or participate in the Facebook page discussion of the book. Reading the book will also prepare you for each Sunday’s sermon because Larry will be preaching on some of the scripture passages McLaren includes at the beginning of each chapter.  The sermons will then relate to the theme of each chapter.  Books are still available for $13 each.  See Larry about purchasing a book.  Happy reading to you all.

Week Twenty-Two—February 8th—Chapter 26

Week Twenty-Three—February 15th—Chapters 27 & 28

Week Twenty-Four—February 22nd—Chapter 29

Week Twenty-Five—February 29th—Chapter 30

Week Twenty-Six—March 7th—Chapter 31

Week Twenty-Seven—March 14th—Chapters 32 and 32A (Palm Sunday Week)

Week Twenty-Eight—March 21st—Chapter Chapters 32B, 32C and 33 (Easter)

Week Twenty-Nine—March 28th— Chapter 34

Week Thirty—April 4th—Chapter 35

Week Thirty-One—April 11th—Chapter 36

Week Thirty-Two—April 18th—Chapter 37

Week Thirty-Three—April 25th—Chapter 38

Week Thirty-Four—May 2nd—Chapter 39

 

The dates listed are Mondays.  Please read the portions of the book indicated sometime that week.  For example, read Chapter 26 sometime between February 8th and 14th. 

 

If you are part of one of the weekly study groups, your group will be discussing those particular readings that week…so you will want to read the chapter(s) for the week before your meeting. 

 

Larry also plans to use one or more of the scriptures noted at the beginning of each chapter for his Sunday sermon.  He will try to expand on the insights gleaned from that week’s reading.  So his message on February 14th will expand on some of the ideas gleaned from the readings for the week beginning February 8th.

 

Our Lenten Study Series this year will simply be a continuation of the study of the McLaren book.  The Lenten Study Series begins Wednesday, February 17th and goes for six Wednesday evenings through March 23rd.  So we will be studying chapters 27-33 for those six weeks of Lent.
